RRPS Aims for Zero Waste
Every day is a recycling day at RRPS! Please consider joining RRPS in its efforts to aim for zero waste in its school cafeterias, classrooms, offices and athletic events.  Zero waste is a philosophy that encourages the redesign of resource life cycles so that all products are reused. No trash is sent to landfills and incinerators. See how one southwestern campus is using “aversion” and “diversion” to reach its goals.  Click here to read about UNM's efforts.
RRPS Seeks Parent Input on Textbook Adoption
Every six years, the state of New Mexico and local school districts review textbooks and other instructional materials in order to adopt updated materials for use in classrooms.  This year we will be adopting instructional materials for grades 9-12 English Language Arts, World Languages, and high school reading intervention to support our implementation of the Common Core State Standards. Interested in helping on an Adoption Committee? We'll have monthly meetings November through March. Click here for details.
What's Happening in RRPS?
RRPS Gets Smarter Climate Control
RRPS recently reduced its gas energy usage by a grand total of 18,258 therms/year in natural gas savings - or more than $10,295 in reduced annual energy costs. This was accomplished by installing programmable thermostats throughout all portables in the school district. The new thermostats allow for optimal efficiency settings to keep the schools comfortable while maximizing efficiency. The project was completed by RRPS staff and the cost for the equipment was covered by New Mexico Gas Company For more information, contact our energy/environmental specialist at ekayak@rrps.net.
RRHS RAM Rack Accepting Donations
The Ram Rack at RRHS is accepting new and gently used clothing plus formal wear and accessories for the 2014-2015 school year. Please bring donations to the RRHS Health Office, or email Ms. Nevarez here. The Ram Rack is made possible in part because of the support of the Rio Rancho Education Foundation, the generosity of the local community (especially St. Felix Pantry) and the outstanding carpenters in the Industrial Arts Center of the S.T.E.P. at RRHS. GO RAMS!
RRPS Core Subject Standards
The Common Core State Standards are now the basis for instruction in Rio Rancho Public Schools, defining what students should know, understand, and be able to do at each grade level in English language arts and math -- and better preparing them for success beyond high school whether they choose college, the military, or a career. Learn more here about the standards and how they benefit students.
