The Rio Rancho Public Schools (RRPS) Board of Education has awarded the contract for Superintendent of Schools to Dr. Robert W. Dodd, marking a historic milestone for the district and the beginning of a new chapter in its 31-year history. This leadership transition is the first superintendent change since the district’s founding and reflects both celebration for the future and gratitude for the steady leadership that has shaped RRPS for more than three decades.

Following a comprehensive search process, the Board approved the contract during its special meeting on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. Dr. Dodd will assume the role of superintendent on March 1, 2026, pending final contractual requirements.

“Selecting our next superintendent is both an exciting and deeply meaningful moment for our district,” said Amanda Galbraith, President of the Rio Rancho Public Schools Board of Education. “After 31 years of consistent leadership from Dr. Cleveland, the Board approached this decision with great care. Dr. Dodd brings the vision, experience, and student-centered focus needed to honor our district’s legacy while confidently leading us into the future.”

Dr. Dodd expressed appreciation for the opportunity and respect for the district’s history. “I am deeply honored that the Board of Education has named me the next superintendent of Rio Rancho Public Schools,” he said. “This district’s success is rooted in an extraordinary 31-year legacy under Dr. Sue Cleveland, and I am committed to honoring that past while working closely with her to ensure a smooth, thoughtful transition. I look forward to listening, learning, and partnering with the Rio Rancho community as we invent the future so every graduate is prepared for what lies ahead.”

As the district prepares for this historic transition, the Board and our school community recognize the service and leadership of the district’s current superintendent, Dr. V. Sue Cleveland, whose tenure has been integral to the growth and identity of Rio Rancho Public Schools.

“Serving Rio Rancho Public Schools has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life,” said Dr. V. Sue Cleveland. “I am incredibly proud of our students, staff, and community, and I am confident the district is well positioned for continued success as it enters this next chapter of leadership.”
