Child Find Screenings
What to Expect
Child Find Screenings are held once a month on Saturdays.
RRPS Child Find is currently conducting in-person screenings.
Screenings procedures are subject to change based on NM Public Health Orders.
In the event of Remote assessments require a fast and stable internet connection. Acceptable devices are smartphones, tablets, and computers with audio and video capabilities.
Before the appointment is scheduled, the parent/guardian will be asked to electronically answer what your child can and cannot do.
Initial screenings require about 45 minutes of your and your child’s time.
Your child will be screened in the following areas: Speech, Language, Fine & Gross Motor Skills, Self Help Skills, Social/Emotional Skills
Following your child’s screening, you will receive an email with the screening outcome and recommendations. This may include further evaluation(s) or referrals to other community services.
Know the Difference Between Screening and Assessment
There can be some confusion about the difference between screening and assessment in early childhood settings.
Screenings can...
identify children who are developing on schedule.
identify children who would benefit from practice or support in specific areas.
identify children at risk for developmental delays who should be referred for further evaluation.
Screenings cannot...
diagnose delays or disabilities.
identify specific child goals to target. Screening only provides information on general areas of development.
Participants should be:
3-5 years old, but younger than kindergarten age
A resident of Rio Rancho
