2017 ACT Scores

RRPS Students On Par Nationally for College and Career Readiness

Data from 636 Rio Rancho Public Schools  2017 graduating seniors who took the ACT exams for college entrance shows RRPS students are on a par with their peers nationally in their readiness to succeed in college and career.

The
ACT establishes benchmark scores in each of four college subject areas -- College Biology, College Social Science, College Algebra, and College English Composition --  that indicate a student's chances of earning a B or C in credit-bearing college courses.   In each of the four areas, the percentage of Rio Rancho students meeting or surpassing ACT’s College Readiness Benchmarks is at or above the national average and well above the state average.  Over one quarter of our students – 27% -- were found to be college-ready in all four subject areas.  This exceeds the state average by 9% and ties the national average.

In addition, in individual subject areas tested on the ACT, RRPS seniors continue to measure up well against their peers around the nation.  The district composite score of 21.2 exceeds the 2017 national average of 21.0 and far exceeds New Mexico's average composite score of 20.0.   Scores in all subject areas exceed state averages and in many subject areas best the national average as well.

The ACT is a curriculum-based achievement test designed to measure the skills and knowledge taught in school and deemed important for first-year college students to possess.  The ACT is widely accepted by colleges and universities in New Mexico and all major colleges and universities across the nation.
