Sweet Music! Lincoln MS, Rio Rancho HS Take State Choir Championships

RRHS choir with championship bannerChoir students at two Rio Rancho schools are whistling a happy tune these days -- maybe "We Are the Champions?"  Both schools took home top honors at the recent New Mexico Activities Association State Choir Championships.

The Lincoln Middle School Advanced Treble Choir, competing against eight other schools,  earned a “1” rating, and eked out a victory over five-time defending state champion Eisenhower Middle School (Albuquerque) in the.  In the photo at right, some of the choir members celebrate their win.  The only other Rio Rancho middle school in the competition, Mountain View Middle School, finished fourth and earned a “2” rating.

Mika Proctor and Becky Talbott with middle school and high school trophiesThe top of the podium is getting to be familiar territory for the Rio Rancho High School Concert Choir (top photo).  For the second time in three years, RRHS tied with another school – this time it was Piedra Vista High near Farmington – for first place honors in the big school (6A) division.  They also achieved a “1” rating and, along with Piedra Vista, the highest score of the competition for any choir regardless of division.  The Cleveland High Concert Choir also performed well and were rewarded with a “1” rating and a fifth-place finish.
