Their works were selected from among outstanding creations submitted by art teachers at the district’s elementary, middle and high schools.

Maggie Cordova Elementary student Silas Camarena (top left) was the elementary school winner with his fanciful depiction of a mythical beast. Kalayah Romero (middle left), from Lincoln Middle School, wowed the judges with a mosaic-style sunrise scene to win the middle school award.

The high school Best of Show winner, Isaiah Nuñez from Rio Rancho High (bottom left), created a warmhearted portrait of his grandfather, E.R. Tapia. Tapia was there for the awards ceremony, right down to the green hat depicted in the portrait, and proudly posed alongside his grandson and the winning painting.

The students received their awards at a ceremony attended by members of the RRPS Board of Education, Superintendent Sue Cleveland, Fine Arts Executive Director Kurt Schmidt, and dozens of proud family members and art teachers. The Rio Rancho Middle School orchestra and Eagle Ridge Middle School brass ensemble entertained guests at the ceremony.

They were ALL wonderful! . . . Each student should be pleased with his or her efforts and the recognition of their work by being represented in this show. Our compliments to the instructors whose efforts produce such amazing results!”
