RRPS/RRSEU Ratified Agreement

RRPS Board of Education, RRSEU Reach Negotiated Agreement

RIO RANCHO, N.M. - The Rio Rancho Public Schools Board of Education and the Rio Rancho School Employees Union (RRSEU) are pleased to announce that for the first time since the 2012-2013 school year, a negotiated agreement has been reached.

The contract was ratified by members of the RRSEU and approved by the Board of Education on Tuesday, May 28, 2019.

Some of the highlights in the agreement include:

  • A 6% raise and teacher tier salary increases
  • A pilot program for EA FMLA
  • A pilot program which would roll sick leave to personal leave
  • The addition of ancillary staff, education technologists, librarians, media specialists, nurses and behavior specialists to the three-tier salary schedule 
  • Maintenance salaries that appropriately reflect experience and licensure; and
  • Reduction in evening duty requirements from three evenings to two

Billie Helean, President of RRSEU, stated, “This negotiated contract -- on which RRSEU was a leader -- correctly prioritized issues and policy which put students' needs first and made RRPS a better place for educators to work. By working together we made great progress together on behalf of the employees - but more importantly our students.”


Catherine Cullen, President of the Board of Education added, “The process of collaboration between the union and the district was excellent and we are pleased to have reached an agreement that will benefit the district’s hardworking and deserving employees.”

The new contract goes into place for the 2019-2020 school year.
