2018 Band Competition Results

RRPS High School Bands Crack Top Tier in State Competition

Rio Rancho’s two high school bands marched into the top five in two major New Mexico competitions this month, proving once again they are among the elite among the state’s high school bands. 

CHS band saxephone playersThe Cleveland High Storm Regiment earned top honors at the 39th New Mexico Pageant of Bands on Saturday, October 20, winning the 5A (large band) division with their Gershwin-inspired program, “What is Blue?”  Cleveland also earned caption (category) awards for woodwinds, drum majors, and soloists.  The week before, the Storm Regiment made the podium at the Zia Marching Band Fiesta which is considered to be the state championship for marching bands.  They were less than five points out of first place, edged out by two much larger ensembles, Clovis and Oñate (Las Cruces).

The Rio Rancho High Marching Band also had an outstanding season, finishing third at Pageant and fourth at Zia with their 2018 spectacular, “A Rainbow in the Clouds.”  The Rams marching band also made the finals at a major regional competition, the Legacy Marching Band Festival held in Thornton, Colorado, just outside of Denver.
