A Helping Hand: The Big Event

RRHS's Big Event Wants to Help You!
Posted on 10/24/2017
The 2017 BIG Event community service project, celebrating its 10th year, will take place on Saturday, November 18 in Rio Rancho. For the tenth consecutive year, teams of student volunteers, accompanied by an adult volunteer, will fan out across the city to complete odd jobs and chores for Rio Rancho residents who request the help. It is a way for the school community to say "Thank you!" to the community for its support of Rio Rancho Public Schools.

Residents interested in submitting a job site application can contact the Rio Rancho High School Activities Office at 962-9500, or download an application from the school website.  Adults who would like to volunteer to be team leaders can also follow this link to sign up.  The deadline to submit a job site request is November 1.

The event, organized by Rio Rancho High School Associated Students, has grown steadily since it began with the first BIG Event in 2008. Last year, more than 550 students and over 85 adults -- more than half of which are RRHS staff members -- volunteered to provide assistance to 90 Rio Rancho residents. Most of the residents served are senior citizens, but there is no socio-economic requirement to be included in the event. The only requirement is that the home be located within the Rio Rancho city limits. Residents are selected on a first-come, first-served basis and job requests will be filled based on the number of available volunteers.
