Demonstrating Competency in Social Studies

There is no High School Graduation Assessment given in social studies.  Students must demonstrate competency through the following two steps.

Step 1:
  • Pass a state-approved U.S. History End of Course assessment (EOC) in New Mexico History, World History, U.S. History, Government, or Economics.  Students have three attempts to pass the EoC per course.

Step 2:

If a student is not able to demonstrate competency through the EoC, they may do so through one of these methods approved by the RRPS Board of Education:

  • Passing a state-approved national exam in social studies.  Approved exams include the ACT, PSAT, SAT subject test, an appropriate Advanced Placement exam, or other approved exam.
  • Successful completion of a RRPS-approved credit-bearing social studies course at an institute for higher education
  • Student has taken the ASVAB and has a preliminary acceptance letter for a full-time position from a branch of the military
