Teacher appreciation honorees
At a reception on the last day of school, nearly 40 teachers and school employees got a special treat: an invitation to an exclusive reception and a gift recognizing them and thanking them for making a difference for students.

Throughout the year, Rio Rancho attorneys Anita Sanchez and Aaron Piñon, along with the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber, have sponsored the Teacher Appreciation Awards to honor outstanding teachers at the district’s 19 schools. Throughout the year, the district received 188 nominations submitted by students, parents, and colleagues. The nominations were reviewed and winners chosen by a committee headed by Ms. Sanchez, and including representatives from the Chamber along with school and district-level administrators. Nominees were recognized and each winning teacher was surprised and presented with a certificate and cash prize at his or her school during a staff meeting.

At the end-of-year reception, the Sanchez and Piñon law firm invited other local businesses to join them in sponsoring prizes for each recipient, and also for teachers and staff members chosen earlier in the year for special recognition by their school administrators. A reverse drawing was held to determine the grand prize winner of a gift certificate for a family vacation. Lincoln Middle School teacher Erin Lopez was the lucky winner of the vacation, with all other recipients receiving cash awards and/or gift certificates.

The Teacher Appreciation Awards will resume next fall, and students and parents are encouraged to nominate a teacher who has made a difference for a child for this special recognition.

RRPS thanks the sponsors and especially the Sanchez and Piñon law firm and the Rio Rancho Regional Chamber for originating and sponsoring the program throughout the year. Sponsors of recognition awards include:
