Just by investing just a few minutes of your time, you can help bring millions of dollars into Rio Rancho. And it’s so easy! The federal government helps local communities pay for services that are critical to the well-being of school-age and younger children, as well as to our schools. In these difficult times, these programs are more important to many families than ever before, programs like:
- Food assistance, including free and reduced-price school lunches
- Maternal and child health programs
- Special education, Head Start, after-school programs, and classroom technology
The amount of money each community gets is based on population. How does the federal government determine the number of people in each community? It counts them, every ten years, by asking every person who lives in the United States to respond to the Census. The more people who respond, the more money your city gets. So it is important that everyone in Rio Rancho be counted!

It’s easy to do your part. If you received a letter from the Census in the mail, it includes a 12-digit code. Go to 2020Census.gov, click on the green “respond now” button, and fill in the code. Based on that code, much of the information in the form will be auto-filled for you – just make any corrections and answer the remaining questions. If you didn’t receive a letter with a code, either through the mail or at your front door, click on the link below the login button. You’ll have to fill in more information manually, but it takes just a couple of minutes. Make sure you also answer the questions for everyone who lives permanently in your household.
