RRPS Recieves a Large Donation

Each April all around the world, people celebrate Earth Day as an opportunity for commitment to practices that sustain the environment and educate people how to take care of their planet.  It's especially fitting that Intel chose Earth Day in Rio Rancho to "sustain" a Rio Rancho Public Schools program that supports both of these lofty goals.   At the festivities, Rio Rancho Public Schools students and staff accepted a $15,000 donation from Intel to support the FRIEND 

(Food Recovery In Excellent New Directions) program at eight district schools.  The FRIEND program is aimed at teaching students lifelong habits to reduce waste in the environment.  Instead of throwing food discards/scraps into the garbage, students are taught to sort it into bins where it can be appropriately recycled as compost and animal feed, keeping it out of landfills.  Intel also presented a $5,000 grant to the Galloping Grace Youth Ranch, which uses the scraps to feed the animals in its programs benefiting local youth.  For further details, view these media reports:
