Special Education Parent Advisory Council Meetings (SEPAC)

I.D.E.A. is a federal funding statute whose purpose is to provide financial aid to states in their efforts to ensure adequate and appropriate services for disabled students. A student who is identified through the evaluation process is eligible to receive IDEA services if the multidisciplinary team determines that the student is disabled under one or more specific qualifying conditions and requires specially designed instruction to benefit from education. Parents are included in the multidisciplinary team.

I.D.E.A. Updated
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (I.D.E.A.) was reauthorized or updated in 2004. That means some changes in special education services in the U.S.
The New Mexico Public Education Department and RRPS have been busy this past summer reviewing
the updates. The focus is on emphasizing high-quality research-based classroom instruction. This has been a focus in Rio Rancho Public Schools.
