We are enjoying this beautiful spring weather and wondering how the school year has flown by so quickly? It has been busy and productive. We have many learning opportunities still ahead for our students so we will continue to focus on student achievement until the last day of school. We also have many special events planned to acknowledge and celebrate the learning that has taken place by our students as well as our staff. We hope many of our MLK families will participate with us for these special activities.

During May, we are always excited to recognize two special groups of people who are critical to our school success, staff members and volunteers.

We are pleased to announce that our MLK Staff Member of the Year is Ms. Annette Donald! Ms. Donald is our gifted program teacher and she has gone above and beyond the call of duty to make learning both challenging and inspiring for her students. She has certainly made a difference for children.

We are also pleased to announce that our Volunteer of the Year is Ms. Susan Musson! Ms. Musson has volunteered countless hours for MLK this year and we could not have been as successful without her.

These two winners, along with several staff members from MLK who are 10 year employees of the district, and our RR Education Star Award winners for this year, will be honored at a dinner on May 1, at RR Mid High.

We also have one special retiree this year, someone that has been with this school since the very beginning, and that is Mr. Mike Curran, our custodial foreman. “Mr. Mike” will be retiring at the end of April, but there will be many events planned in his honor to acknowledge the many years of hard work, dedication, and loyalty he has given to Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary.
