**Updated Monday, March 13 9 PM**
The RRPS district is continuing to gather public input on proposed adjustments to the attendance boundary for Ernest Stapleton Elementary. This map shows the Stapleton attendance zone and the areas recommended for adjustment by the steering committee after reviewing the public comment and input received as of March 13. (click on the map to enlarge). The committee's recommendation excludes a portion of the area south of Northern and west of Unser that was originally proposed to change schools.
After receiving an update at its March 13 meeting (see the presentation here), the school board has directed the proposal be put on the agenda for Monday, March 27 for final action. For details on the proposal, click here. Further information is included in the links below.
Public comment and questions are still being accepted. Please send questions and comments to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Ultimately, the construction of Joe Harris Elementary in Unit 11 will provide enrollment relief to Stapleton as well as to Puesta del Sol, Maggie Cordova, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary Schools. However, the opening of Joe Harris is a minimum of 4-5 years away and could be longer, especially given the state's fiscal crisis. With continued growth in some areas of the Stapleton zone, it would be beneficial to provide relief to Stapleton as soon as possible. The district plans to consider a more comprehensive, district-wide boundary adjustment next year.
