Welcome to Rio Rancho Shining Stars Preschool!Shining Stars Preschool is a program for children who have educational disabilities, children from low socioeconomic backgrounds and four year olds funded through the Pre-K Initiative Grant Program.
The preschool is based on the premise that early intervention is effective in preparing children with a solid foundation for educational success, providing remediation for learning deficits, and identifying strategies which offset the impact of educational disabilities on young children. The SSP has a transdisciplinary philosophy in which all the staff members working with a child share techniques to address individual goals and objectives. The school team along with the parents and other caregivers, work together in roles which address each child’s specific needs.
All of our students have identified learning goals and objectives based on the NMPED Performance Standards & Benchmarks for Three and Four Year Old Children. Children with educational disabilities attending SSP have Individualized Education Plans (IEP's) with learning goals and objectives based on needs identified through formal testing. The goals and objectives are guides for the staff to help the children acquire skills that other children of their age have already learned.

Contact the Registrar at each of your children's schools to make sure information is correct if: - you have changed your phone number(s) - you have not received a notification call from the RRPS SchoolMessenger system this year If you have received a call and you're not the parent of (or the emergency contact for) an RRPS student, call 896-0667 Ext. 180.
Run For SSPS School Advisory Council (SAC)
In preparation for a busy school year next year, we are looking for parents, staff members, and community members who would like to serve on the Shining Stars Preschool Advisory Council. The council advises the principal on school budgets, curriculum, and rules and policies and are champions for students in building community support for schools. School councils consist of two school staff members, two parents, and two community representatives who must be Rio Rancho residents or have a student enrolled in a Rio Rancho public school. The principal serves as an active member of the council. Meetings are held four or more times per year.
Candidates for school council are chosen through elections conducted at the beginning of the school year. Those wishing to serve should file a declaration of candidacy, which can be obtained here. Declarations of candidacy should be returned no later than Friday, May 22nd in person to our front office, or to the district office, 500 Laser Rd. NE. Candidates will be asked to show ID and proof of residency when submitting their declarations of candidacy. Click here for full information about joining our School Advisory Council!
A Note from Ellen:
As you know, many of you have a preschool child that will soon be entering kindergarten in Rio Rancho Public Schools. The transition to kindergarten from preschool is an exciting and somewhat anxious time for children and families. If your child requires special services in kindergarten, your close involvement in helping to plan the program is important to us. Read more...
A Message from Suzanne Harper (Principal):
Dear Shining Stars Families,
The Shining Stars Read To Me Program begins Monday, February 9th. Make sure to check your child’s backpack for the calendar. The SSP Literacy Team was able to give 120 books to Read To Me Program participants this past Fall! Join the fun and read, read, read!
If you stop by campus you will see our beautiful Sensory Garden taking shape. John Tittman and Julian Cull have been volunteering, teaching our children how to build an adobe house. The children are loving it. It is a true outdoor learning experience. The Sensory Garden is changing every day. You can look forward to more changes throughout the coming months.
February is Dental Health Month. So, it’s the perfect time to encourage the children to brush their teeth and limit unhealthy snacks. February 14th will probably be an exception, but it’s a great month to focus on healthy eating, exercise and keeping those pearly whites clean.
