Rio Rancho students will return to school in August, as follows:

  • Mid-High, High Schools: Classes begin Tuesday August 12, 2008
  • Middle schools: Classes begin Wednesday August 13, 2008
  • Elementary schools, grades K-5:
    • Parent-teacher visits and student pre-testing: August 13, 14, 15, 2008 (PARENTS: you will be called by your child's teacher to set up a time for the meeting and testing.)
    • Elementary school classes begin on Monday, August 18, 2008

General Information about RRPS Schools | Important Start of School Information

What to bring to registration...
If you are registering your child(ren) for the first time, here is the list of what you MUST bring with you when you go to register your child:

  • Original birth certificate issued by a state or municipality (NOT by a hospital)
  • Immunization records
    Students must be current on all required immunizations before they will be permitted to attend school. Please note that all seventh graders who have not received a tetanus-containing vaccine within the past five years will be required to have a Tdap shot this year. Students enrolling in kindergarten must be five years of age by 12:01 AM on September 1 as required by state law. View our Immunization Requirements here.
  • Social Security number (requested, but not required)
  • Proof of residency (CURRENT utility bill, rent receipt, or purchase agreement)
  • Transcripts (high school)
Returning students (students previously enrolled in a Rio Rancho school) at all schools should provide the following:
  • Updated immunization records/medication information (click for complete immunization requirements)
  • Transcripts from summer school or correspondence classes, if applicable
  • VERY IMPORTANT...CURRENT contact information: phone numbers, addresses, parents’ work location(s) and phone, cell phone, parents’ e-mail address, and emergency contact number(s) for someone other than the parents.  This information will be used to reach you through the district emergency notification system if there is an emergency at your school, and also directly in any situation specifically involving your child.
  • Other information as requested by the school -- many schools require proof of residency for returning students

The following information applies to all children who will be registered at RRPS schools this coming fall. Existing students will have already gone through pre-registration activities at their respective schools, but may still need to attend registration activities in August before school starts.

New students must provide an original birth certificate, proof of Rio Rancho residency (utility bill, lease agreement, mortgage statement, purchase agreement), and an unofficial transcript.

Summer Pre-registration: by appointment only
Pre-registration will be conducted on Wednesdays in June for students grade 10 – 12 who are new to the Rio Rancho Public School District. Pre-registration will be by appointment only. For information or to make an appointment please contact Ms. Eberly at 896-5646 or Ms. Romero at 896-5606.

Students who attended Rio Rancho Mid-High or Rio Rancho High School in 2007-08 have already pre-registered and will complete the registration process in July. A registration packet will be mailed out with additional information and dates in June.

Independence High School is an alternative school serving students within the Rio Rancho school district and offers enrollment for high school students.  Students must be at least 16 years of age and must meet eligibility requirements, including having earned five credits from a previous accredited high school.  All applicants and their parents meet with the principal and must participate in the “Pupil Education Plan” (PEP) before a student can register.

Cyber Academy FAQ's

Rio Rancho Cyber Academy provides online learning opportunities to secondary students. Students may take all of their courses through the Cyber Academy, or may supplement regular class loads at other RRPS schools. Enrollment is by application and interview.
