RRPS Implements New Student Information System
To Rio Rancho Public School families and community members:
Rio Rancho Public Schools is in the process of changing over to a new, web-based student information system that will replace the current systems used for day-to-day student data management (enrollment, attendance, transcripts, etc.). This software will also replace the middle and high school electronic grade books and the parent access system for secondary schools, ParentConnect. The current elementary electronic grade book system and the current district-wide emergency phone notification system will continue to be used next year.
Updated 09/09/09: We anticipated opening access to parents and students next week, but are working through resolutions for various attendance and grade book issues. Our goal is of course to resolve these issues as quickly as possible as they surface and to be confident with the information that will be displayed within PowerSchool parent portal by the end of this month.
Once this service becomes available, you will not need to register as required for ParentConnect, but a parent/legal guardian will still need to visit one of our designated schools to present a photo id and receive login credentials. Please use traditional means of communicating with your child's teacher in the interim. Please revisit this page and/or school home web pages for further updates (hit F5 to refresh your browser's view of this page).
The district was obligated to pursue this change due to the discontinuation by the company of support for the current student data management system. The changeover is a massive undertaking and is being done in phases to allow for uninterrupted continuation of normal district-wide activities.
The new student data application will be used in the fall primarily to manage attendance, enrollment, health, grades, and scheduling. We will phase in more of the features of this application as the year proceeds.
The school-to-home communication piece of this new system (replacing ParentConnect for secondary schools), will be developed and tested as teachers start to enter assignments and grades.
We want to make sure this application is thoroughly tested and provides secure and accurate information before we make it available to parents. We encourage parents to continue communicating with their children’s teachers through traditional methods (phone, notes, etc.), especially for the first couple of months of the school year when the school-to-home communication application will not be operational. We expect to bring the new application online later in the fall.
We thank you in advance for your support and patience as we implement this new, more advanced system. Please watch our website for any updates about our new system!
