Meet Our Head Coach

Coach Toby Manzanares

Toby Manzanares just completed his 22nd year as a head volleyball coach, the last 12 years at Rio Rancho High School.

His overall record at Rio Rancho High School is 201-75, winning nine consecutive district 1-5A titles, finishing as the Class 5A State Runner-up in 2001 and 2004 & 2008, and securing the 5A State Championship five of the last seven seasons (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, & 2007). While at St. Pius X, Manzanares led Sartans, claimed Class 3A State runner-up honors in 1993, and the Class 3A State Championship in 1994, posting an undefeated season (21-0).

Coach "Manz" has an overall career record of 321-144.  Coach Manzanares graduated from St. Pius X High School and attended Eastern New Mexico University.  He holds a Bachelor's & Master's Degree in Physical Education with a minor in Health Education.  He teaches Physical Education at Rio Rancho High School.

Married to the former Carol Wiley of Silver City, New Mexico, they have two children; Tommy Chad (14), and Shae Brooke (8).

"Rams" to Phoenix for the 1st Annual NIKE Tournament of Champions!! Sept 16- 19

The RRHS Varsity team traveled to Phoenix, AZ. to participate in the NIKE Tournament of Champions. A total of 36 teams entered the event in what was a showcase of teams from the Southwest. In the Red Pool, the "Rams" faced Clovis West (Fresno, CA), Horizon (Phoenix, AZ), and Red Mountain (Phoenix, AZ).

Varsity (1-3) places 5th at NIKE Tournament of Champions (Phoenix, AZ.)

The "Rams" placed 5th out of 36 teams in the Inaugural NIKE Tournament of Champions. They were defeated by The Bishop's School (La Jolla, CA) 0-2, in the quarterfinals of the Gold Chammpionship bracket.  The "Rams" finished 2nd in the Red Pool, before taking 1st in Pool E.  A challenge match win against Chandler High (Chandler, AZ.) 2-1, sent the "Rams" to the Gold Championship bracket.

 

"Rams" get nod in first Coaches Poll 2009!

The RRHS Varsity team was ranked #1 in the first Class 5A New Mexico High School Coaches Association poll on September 10. The votes & rankings were compiled and published in the Albuquerque Journal. First place votes are in parenthesis.
