The RRHS Sports Medicine program has a challenging curriculum.
Students are held to high academic and professional expectations.
Sports Medicine I
Sports Medicine students learn the domains of Athletic Training through the prevention, evaluation, treatment/care, and administration/organization of athletic injuries. Students learn how to identify and evaluate injuries/illnesses associated with athletic participation for the primary purpose of administering proper first aid and emergency care. Students become proficient in taping, wrapping, bracing, CPR/AED and FA skills. This course is ideal for students interested in healthcare as a profession. Students work with RRHS athletes after school in the training room and at athletic events to enhance their skills.
Sports Medicine II
Sports Medicine II students apply the five domains of Athletic Training they learned in Sports Medicine I in a greater depth. Sports Medicine students mentor SM I students. They learn more advanced evaluation skills of injuries/illnesses for the primary purpose of administering first aid and emergency care. Students learn database entry for accurate record keeping. They learn how to design, plan, and implement rehabilitation programs for injured athletes. Students learn to recognize common signs anf symptoms of environmental illnesses and how to properly care for illnesses. Students visit healthcare organizations and observe physicians and healthcare providers in an actual setting. SM students travel with individual teams and provide injury care. SM II students are responsible for more clinical hours than SM I.
Sports Medicine III
Sports Medicine III apply the five domains of Athletic Training they learn in SM I and SM 2 in greater depth. They mentor all levels of SM students. They enhance their evaluation skills of injuries and illnesses. Students have a greater repsonsibility and have higher expectations. Students have the opportunity to be responsible for a specific team coverage and have the opportunity to travel with that sport. Students design weekly work schedules for practice and game coverage.
