Information on RRPS Health Room Procedures and Guidelines
"No Idling" Signs Going Up
If you drive your child to school and use our drop-off and pick-up lane, in the next few months you’ll notice some new signs reminding you of RRPS’s “no idling” procedure. This procedure isn’t new – it’s actually been in effect for about a year – but the new signs will serve as reminders to turn off your vehicle while waiting to pick up your child.
Why have a “no idling” procedure? It improves air quality around our schools, saves money on gasoline, and reduces the carbon footprint connected with our schools’ facilities. It’s just common sense.
Obviously, we don’t expect parents who are in slow-moving traffic in loading areas to shut off their vehicles every time they stop for a few seconds. But if you’re going to be at a standstill for several minutes, please shut off your vehicle unless it is unreasonable to do so because of cold weather.
To learn more about the “no idling” procedure, please visit the RRPS Web site, www.rrps.net. Think about turning it OFF while you wait and help us keep our kids healthy!
Did you know that every gallon of gas produces 19 pounds of CO2? Children are especially vulnerable to air pollution because they breathe faster than adults and inhale more polluted air per pound of body weight. RRPS has adopted a No Idling procedure to help improve the air quality in school neighborhoods. Save money and improve our air for students, staff & families by turning off your vehicles while waiting outside our schools. Visit your school’s website and click on the tab “District News” for more information.
