U. S. Census Information-
Help Rio Rancho Get Its Fair Share!

Sometime during spring break, a big envelope from the U.S. Census Bureau should arrive in your mailbox. Please take 10 minutes (or less!) to open it, answer 10 simple questions, pop it back into the postage-prepaid return envelope, and send it in. What’s in it for you? Money for your local schools and your community! Billions of dollars are allocated on the basis of the census count – and Rio Rancho currently isn’t getting its fair share.
Currently, federal funds are being allocated on the basis of 2000 census information – about
25,000 Rio Rancho residents and 6,500 Rio Rancho public school students ago. If eveyone in Rio
Rancho is counted in this census, it will most likely mean millions more in federal money for our city
and our schools – without any increase in your taxes!
An accurate census count of every Rio Rancho resident will also give all of us a bigger voice in
government policymaking, since legislative and congressional districts are drawn on the basis of
census data.
Census data is confidential and individuals’ answers are not shared with any other agencies,
including law enforcement, the Internal Revenue Service, and immigration. In fact, it’s against
federal law for individuals’ census data to be shared.
For more information on the census, visit www.2010census.gov. Ten questions – ten minutes –
a fair share for Rio Rancho! It’s in YOUR hands!

For more information on the census, visit www.2010census.gov.

AVID--Decades of College Dreams

AVID is a 7th – 12th grade program that students must request in order to enroll.  We are looking for students who are capable of better work than they are doing - - in classes that are more rigorous than they are used to.  Acceptance into the program is determined through an application process.  The curriculum consists of learning reading and writing strategies that work, inquiry, team building, collaboration techniques, and organization skills.  Weekly tutoring and additional support is provided to assist students in advanced classes along with motivational activities to encourage college aspirations.

Does it work?  You bet it does!  At Capital High School in Santa Fe, the high school graduation rate for AVID Seniors is 100%!  Being enrolled in AVID is like having a personal trainer at your side throughout middle and high school.  We offer both 7th and 8th grade AVID at Eagle Ridge and have openings in January and again in August.  Have your student contact Captain Bruce Gustin for more information – they know how to find me.  bgustin@rrps.net
