New Mexico History:
During this week, the students will be learning about the 2010 Census. What it is and how it benefits our city, state, and nation.
Essential Questions: How was New Mexico influenced by United States expansion? How did New Mexico go from being Spanish, to Mexican, to a U.S. territory in just 30 years?
Standards & Benchmarks:
Social Studies Power Standard 2: Describe how important individuals, groups, and events impacted the development of New Mexico from the 16th century to the present.
Social Studies Power Standard 3: Compare and contrast the influence of Spain on the Western Hemisphere from colonization to the present.
Social Studies Power Standard 4: Analyze and evaluate information by developing and applying criteria for selecting appropriate information and use it to answer critical questions.
Social Studies Power Standard 6: Describe factors affecting location of human activities, including land use patterns in urban, suburban, and rural areas.
Social Studies Power Standard 7: Describe geographically based pathways of interregional interaction.
Social Studies Power Standard 8: Explain the concept of diversity and its significance within the political and social unity of New Mexico.
Social Studies Power Standard 10: Explain how economic and intrinsic incentives influence how individuals, households, businesses, governments, and societies allocate and use their space resources.
Social Studies Power Standard 11: Understand the interdependencies between the ecomonies of New Mexico, the United States, and the world.
