Here is a list of books to try:

• The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins - This is a riveting tale of a distant future that has a little bit of everything: action, adventure, political intrigue, romance and suspense.  I couldn't put it down.
• The City of Ember by Jeanne DuPrau - What do you do when the lights go out?
• The Giver by Lois Lowry - There has never been a better allegory.  The ending leaves you wanting more!
• The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman - This is one of the most intriguing fantasy/adventure tales I have read.
• The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J. R. R. Tolkien - This IS the most intriguing fantasy/adventure tale I have read.
• Eragon by Christopher Paolini - Dragons and Magicians
• Anything by Gary Paulsen - This is how internal conflict is written.  Man vs Self and Nature.
