**For the month of March, we will be studying how, when, and why New Mexico became under Untied States rule. (Chapter 10 in the text). This includes concepts of regionalism, mercantilism, and Manifest Destiny. In just 30 short years, New Mexico switched from being under the rule of Spain, to Mexico, to the United States. This is a time of drastic change for all New Mexicans. And the events that take place henceforth help shape who we are today.

**Not very many people are taking advantage of our on-going extra credit opportunity- Please read more about it below.

On-Going Extra Credit Opportunity:

***Being New Mexicans in a New Mexico history class, we have the oppurtunity to not only learn our state's fantastic history through our textbook and classwork, but to drink our fill of the beautiful land and experience first hand the 'real' history of our state. As much as I would love to take you all on a different field trip every day to witness the proof of the past, reality speaks differently.....So, here is what I propose to all of you (parents and students):

Any time you go somewhere within the state of New Mexico, try to find some sort of pamphlet or newsletter explaining it's history. bring that to class with you along with AT LEAST 1/2 page written paper paraphrasing the historical signifigance of the place you visited and what you did while you were there.

You don't have to go far to witness history----we are literally surrounded by it. As close as Corrales offers the San Ysidro church that is hundreds of years old. Down Town Albuquerque is riddled with history and of course Santa Fe. GO! TRAVEL! WITNESS! ENJOY! LEARN TOGETHER!
