Important Info for 6B Families

Dear 6B Families,                                                                                                 March 10, 2010

As the beginning of the fourth and final quarter approaches, it’s hard to believe that our students are nearly done with the 6th grade! In order to prepare students for the expectations of 7th grade, there are a few changes that will go into effect this last quarter, starting Monday, March 22, 2010.

Getting Ready for Next Year… Changes for Q4:

  • Students will attend all 4 core classes everyday (no more block schedule in Q4)
  • Unexcused Late Work will no longer be accepted
  • If a student is absent, s/he will still have the number of days absent to make up school work
  • If a student needs to talk to a teacher about extending a deadline, it is that student’s responsibility to communicate to the teacher before the due date for that assignment is missed.
  • In all core classes, homework will be handed out Monday and due that Friday (students will have to independently practice time management skills).

Sixth grade is a year of transitions. It is our goal as teachers to help each and every one of our students be prepared for the rigors and responsibilities of growing up, each step of the way. By raising our standard, we are encouraging our students to prove to themselves, their families and their teachers that they are ready to move forward into the 7th grade.

We ask for your support by discussing these new expectations with your student, and to help them come up with a plan to meet them.

U. S. Census Information-
Help Rio Rancho Get Its Fair Share!

Sometime during spring break, a big envelope from the U.S. Census Bureau should arrive in your mailbox. Please take 10 minutes (or less!) to open it, answer 10 simple questions, pop it back into the postage-prepaid return envelope, and send it in. What’s in it for you? Money for your local schools and your community! Billions of dollars are
allocated on the basis of the census count – and Rio Rancho currently isn’t getting its fair share.
Currently, federal funds are being allocated on the basis of 2000 census information – about
25,000 Rio Rancho residents and 6,500 Rio Rancho public school students ago. If eveyone in Rio
Rancho is counted in this census, it will most likely mean millions more in federal money for our city
and our schools – without any increase in your taxes!
An accurate census count of every Rio Rancho resident will also give all of us a bigger voice in
government policymaking, since legislative and congressional districts are drawn on the basis of
census data.
Census data is confidential and individuals’ answers are not shared with any other agencies,
including law enforcement, the Internal Revenue Service, and immigration. In fact, it’s against
federal law for individuals’ census data to be shared.
For more information on the census, visit www.2010census.gov. Ten questions – ten minutes –
a fair share for Rio Rancho! It’s in YOUR hands!

Congratulations to our Students of the Week!

You have represented Safe, Respectful and Responsible Behavior and are Leaders among your peers! Way to Go! We will continue to nominate 4 students per week for their outstanding behavior.

Parents Mark your Calendars Now for our SBA Testing!

The test dates are: March 30, April 7, April 8, April 13, April 14, and April 15.  We are planning a big event, the Eagle Ridge SBA Dance, on the afternoon of Friday, April 16.   To receive a free ticket, one of the criteria will be that the student must have taken each and every assessment test on the day and time it was scheduled.   Please do not schedule medical, dental, or other appointments on these days.

Snacks

  • Every afternoon we have a short snack break.
  • Students may bring a snack from home to enjoy during this time.
  • We also offer healthy snacks and water to purchase from $.25- $.50

Cell Phones

In this day and age, we realize that many of our students need to carry a cell phone with them to school. This is allowed, however, it is ERMS policy that all electronic devices must be turned off during the school day and kept in their lockers. If a student needs to use the phone, they may use a teacher's classroom phone. If you need to get a message to your student, you should call the front office and the message will be delivered to your student in a timely manner. Please help us to enforce this expectation.

Bus Transportation

The phone number printed in your student's agenda for transportation issues has been changed. The new number is 338-0078. Please use this number for any questions or concerns regarding the bus.
