We are excited to launch this new system and ask for your patience while we make all the necessary adjustments!

Parent notifications --

Please make sure that your contact information (especially addresses and home/cell phone numbers) have been updated in your child’s school record so that our emergency contact system will be able to reach the correct person in the case of emergencies or attendance calls.

Contact the Registrar at each of your children's schools to make sure information is correct:

  • if you have changed your phone number(s)
  • if you have not received a notification call from the RRPS SchoolMessenger system this year

If you have received a call and you're not the parent of (or the emergency contact for) an RRPS student, call 896-0667 Ext. 180 to have your number removed.

Give Me 5! Positive Behavior Support

Handprint

This year Vista Grande is using a Positive Behavior Support (PBS) system called

Give Me 5!

Give Me 5! refers to the five behaviors VGE expects all students to exhibit at all times.  The five behaviors are:

Be Responsible

Be Respectful

Be Safe

Be Positive

Be Kind

Since the first day of school the students have been learning how to exhibit these behaviors in various places around the school, including the classroom, playground, cafeteria and hallways. By the end of October, all students will learn the Give Me 5! expectations for every aspect of the school day.

To support students with these expectations, teachers and staff will be sending home positive postcards to notify parents that their child can “Give Me 5!” Look for them soon in your mailbox or your child’s backpack. For more information about the expected behavior for students, please refer to your Student Handbook, pages 8-11.

Together, we are here to learn!

We believe the most promising strategy for achieving the goals of Vista Grande Elementary is to develop our capacity to function as a professional learning community. We envision a school in which we:

• Unite to achieve a common purpose and clear goals
• Work together in collaborative teams
• Seek and implement promising strategies for improving student achievement on a continuing basis
• Monitor each student’s progress
• Demonstrate a personal commitment to the academic success and general well being of all students

In order to advance our shared vision of an exemplary school, we:

1. Help all students achieve the intended outcomes of the curriculum by identifying and addressing their individual needs and learning styles.

2. Provide an inviting school-wide environment for children - an environment with clear expectations, consistent consequences, and specific, articulated, academic goals.

3. Believe that every attempt should be made to maintain the dignity of both the adult and student.

4. Maintain high expectations for all children and recognize that all students, with help and support, can learn.

5. Collaborate with one another and our students so that we can achieve our collective goals more effectively.

6. Believe that students should be given the opportunity to make decisions and live with the results, whether the natural consequences are good or bad.

7. Promote a positive school climate by modeling the qualities and characteristics that we hope to instill in our children.

8. Embrace collective inquiry to clarify the purpose of a professional endeavor, research effective methods and strategies collectively, and find, implement, and test best practices for achieving a stated purpose.

9. Believe students should be guided and expected to solve the problems they create without making problems for anyone else.

10. Involve parents in the education of their children by keeping them informed of student progress, offering suggestions for assisting their students, and encouraging their contribution.

11. Honor a professional and collaborative environment by committing to professional obligations.

12. Believe that there should be a logical connection between misbehavior and resulting consequences and misbehavior should be viewed as an opportunity for individual problem solving and preparation for the real world.

13. Identify children who are low performing and work together to see that they make progress towards meeting our high expectations.

14. Identify children who are high achievers and provide opportunities for enrichment or advancement so the can continue to grow academically to fulfill their own potential.

15. Believe students should have the opportunity to respectfully tell their side of the story when consequences appear to be unfair.
