The PTO IS ACTIVELY SEEKING NEW OFFICERS to serve on the Executive Board.

  • Nominations officially close this Friday, March 26.
    The vote will be held at our next meeting on April 20, 2010.

CONSIGNMENT SALE! Southwest Kids Consignment

  • Southwest Kids Consignment will donate 5% of all sales from anyone who mentions Sandia Vista at checkout.
  • The sale is March 27 from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at 1201 Golf Course Rd.
  • They are also offering a $100 donation to the PTO of any Rio Rancho schools with the most families consigning items for sale.

ANNUAL SPRING PTO MEETING will be held at 6:30 p.m. on April 20, 2010.

  • Please mark your calendars now! If there is anything that you would like to see discussed, please let us know so that we can put it on the agenda.

MOTHER'S DAY PLANT SALE Wednesday, May 5, 2010.

  • Plants will be purchased from a wholesaler and sold nearly at-cost.
  • We could really use some help on that day for set-up and sales.
  • If you have any time, please contact us.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK is May 3-7, 2010

  • The PTO will be honoring the Sandia Vista teachers and staff with a luncheon on 5/12/10.
  • Please take a moment to remember your child's teacher in a special way during that week.

The Sandia Vista Elementary P.T.O. Recycling Efforts

TerraCycle Efforts

The Sandia Vista PTO has formed a Collection Team through Terracycle for the following items:

  • Juice Pouches - Capri Sun, Kool-aid Jammers, Honest Kids juice pouches are "upcycled" into products such as backpacks, pencil cases, and hats.
  • Malt-o-Meal Cereal Bags - any used (empty) cereal bag is accepted. Terracycle turns these into lunch boxes, backpacks and more.
  • Candy Wrapper - all Mars/Wrigley candy wrappers of any size are accepted. These products include M&Ms, skittles, snickers, twix, starburst, mars bars, dove chocolate bars, three musketeers, and other Mars products.
  • Chip Bags - all empty Frito-Lay chip bags or any size are accepted and "upcycled" into cool new products such as speakers for audio equipment, clipboards, and bags.
  • Lunchables Kits- sponsored byLunchables , eligible kits include Basics, Fun Packs, Completes, and Value Twin packs. Clean packaging, including the cover and cardboard nutritional information tag on back are recycled into products such as lunchboxes, coolers, and many more.
  • Elmer's Glue Crew - empty Elmer's glue bottles and all brands of glue sticks are collected. The plastic in the containers is recycled into cool new products

The PTO also collects Box Tops for Education coupons. There are hundreds of products that feature these coupons, including Huggies diapers and wipes, Betty Crocker mixes, Bisquick, Juicy Juice, 82 different types of cereal, Hefty products, ziploc bags, Green giant frozen veggies, Pilsbury rolls, hamburger helper, old el paso meals, cottonelle, viva and scott paper products, Avery office products, Marks-a-lot markers, Fruit Roll-ups, Betty Crocker fruit snacks, Nature Valley granola bars, and many more. For each Box Tops coupon collected the PTO earns $0.10. We have been successful in collecting over $1000 worth of coupons each year for the past two years!

Through the www.boxtops4education.com portal you can link to hundreds of popular online shopping sites and the PTO will receive a percentage of your purchase amount. Participating stores are as diverse as Barnes and Nobles and 1-800-Flowers, Best Buy and Ann Taylor, Crate and Barrel, the Disney Store, and Home Depot! Our earnings place us as #11 out of 1011 schools collecting Box Tops in the entire state of NM!

Campbell's Labels for Education coupons found on Campbell's® soups, SpaghettiOs® pasta, Pepperidge Farm® products (including Goldfish® crackers), Swanson® broths, V-8® beverages and Prego® pasta saucesoup cans. In order to count, we need the coupon that indicates the number of points or the UPC code on older packaging that does not have the coupon. For V-8 juice we collect the plastic caps. In this program we earn points that can be redeemed for items in a Labels for Education catalog including school supplies, playground equipment, musical instruments, and much more.

Our members also coordinate the collection of aluminum can pop-tops to support the Ronald McDonald House.

We are looking for volunteers to help out with planning and with various activities—even if you only have an hour or two to give, we have a job for you. Together we can make Sandia Vista a great place for our children!
