Welcome back Dragons! The 2009-2010 school year is going to be the biggest most spectacular year so far in Dragon history. We are busting at the seams with over 970 students. Along with all those additional warm bodies we will continue to deliver the excellence in education we are so proud of aspiring too. Thanks to our exemplary students, faculty, parents and school community we will move forward in raising each of us in an environment of academic high standards, good citizenship, tolerance, compassion and love. The new bus system is a significant improvement over what I have experienced in the past. I encourage everyone to work patiently and constructively with our new transportation department to help transport students safely and efficiently to and from school. The parent pick up and drop off procedures are working very well. I am deeply grateful to teachers Nicelle Spears and Hollie Zamora for spearheading these procedures and for all the staff members that have volunteered extra duty time in the heat to make it work. Parents please continue to have your children ride the bus where service is available. Statistically they are much safer on the bus and this helps prevent our parent pick up lines backing up. I will continue to be very strict about good attendance, tardiness and early check outs from school. Please schedule appointments outside of school hours when ever possible. Also, Friday afternoon is not early release day. When your children are not in school they are missing valuable educational lessons. After Labor Day, if you need a parent volunteer badge you may get the forms for the background check from Theresa Archuleta in the front office. All school visitors must check and sign out on the computer in the front office. It is imperative that I know who is in the building at all times. It is not that am trying to keep you from your children. I must protect their safety and the integrity of our educational programs by keeping disruptions to a minimum and people with out security clearance away from our campus. Also, snacks and any forgotten items need to be left at the front desk. We will contact your child and their teacher and have those items delivered or picked up. If you need to leave a message about changes in pick up scheduling please leave a message on the teacher’s voice mail and/or e-mail at the start of the school day. Emergency changes only will go through the office. We cannot guarantee that any changes in pick up after school will get to your child/children unless you let us know before 3:30pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and before 12:15pm on Wednesday. The earliest that students can be dropped off is 8:35am. Any earlier, the parent will be contacted. Please join our PTO if you haven’t already. It is an amazing group of parents. They provide so much support, good energy, fun family activities for our school community. Together we will make this a wonderful school year for the children, each other and our world! |
