Supply List for 2009-2010 School Year:
Kindergarten teachers request that each parent pay a supply fee of $25.  With these funds the teachers will purchase the necessary supplies for each child that will be shared by all students in kindergarten.  These supply fees will be collected at the time your child is given the “Baseline Assessment”, prior to the first day of school by your child’s teacher.

learning imagelearning imageKindergarten classrooms can always use donated supplies throughout the school year.  Check with your child’s teacher to see what items could be helpful for classroom projects.

How can you help your child practice skills throughout the year? learning image

Some Suggestions:

  •   Visit the public library regularly.
  •   Read nightly to/with your child.  Research shows that children learn to read by having others read to them!
  •   Daily practice writing first and last name using an uppercase letter at the beginning followed by lowercase letters.
  •   Help your child to become more independent by working with him/her on self-help skills such as zipping, fastening buttons, tying shoes, restroom skills, washing hands, putting things away, etc.
  •   Write notes back and forth with your child.
  •   Play games that require reading and recognizing letters of the alphabet.
  •   Play math games that involve counting and recognizing numbers.
  •   Have your child take music, art, and/or dance lessons.
  •   Visit public museums and talk with your child about what you see.
  •   Help strengthen your child’s fine motor skills through experiences with household items such as play dough, spray bottles and clothespins.
  • Cutting and tracing over numbers, letters, and pictures also helps to enhance fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

How Can Parents Stay Involved?

learning image Parent help is always welcome in the classroom.  Teachers welcome parent volunteers and will discuss their schedule for classroom volunteers.  We will not have parent volunteers during the first three weeks of school.  When parents volunteer, we request that they do not bring siblings into the classroom to minimize distractions.  If you are unable to volunteer at school, you may want to contact your child’s teacher to request activities that you can do from your home.

learning image Field trips will be scheduled throughout the year to provide extensions of the curriculum.  Parent participation is encouraged, however, sometimes the number of chaperones are limited.  Your child’s teacher will inform you how and when to sign up for field trips.

learning image We are requesting parents to be involved in creating the PTO (parent/teacher organization) at Cielo Azul.  Please watch for information in the Raven Reporter regarding PTO meetings and events.
