How Can Parents Stay Involved?
We are requesting parents to be involved in creating the PTO (parent/teacher organization) at Cielo Azul. Please watch for information in the Raven Reporter regarding PTO meetings and events.
What will my child be learning in Fourth Grade?
Reading:
- Read grade level text with fluency and comprehension
- Read, listen, and interact with a variety of text
- Predict, summarize, question, know fact vs. opinion
- Examine author's style and purpose
- Identify setting, plot, conflict, characters' motives, and different viewpoints of characters
- Read and respond to a variety of different genres
- Use reference materials and parts of books to find information
Writing:
- Compose multiple paragraphs using the writing process and traits of good writing
- Write in a variety of different formats such as: friendly and business letters; descriptive and narrative essays; expository
- Use planning strategies such as brainstorming, mapping, webbing, reading, and discussion
- Create presentations to present information and ideas clearly
Math:
- Identifying, renaming, comparing, and ordering fractions
- Add/ subtract fractions with common denominators
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide multi-digit whole numbers and decimals
- Analyze patterns
- Use equations and interpret variables
- Geometry: lines, line segments, rays, angles, polygons, properties of solids, using formulas
- Measurement: length, perimeter, area, mm, cm, inches, feet, etc.
- Analyzing data: median, mode, minimum, maximum, range
- Graphing data: plots, bar/line graphs, tally charts
- Problem solving and justifying answers with pictures, numbers, and words
Social Studies:
- Map skills
- Regions of the U.S.
- New Mexico History
- States and Capitals
Science:
- Engineering Toys (physics; energy; motion; forces)
- Investigating Chemistry (physical and chemical changes)
- NM Earth Science (meteorology; geology; astronomy)
- Survival (what plants and animals need to survive)
