Welcome to 2nd Grade!
The following are some procedures to be aware of:
Monday Mail – Large envelopes called Monday Mail will be sent home on Mondays. If we are not in school on Mondays, due to holidays, it will be sent home on Tuesday. The envelope will contain all of your child’s work that has been graded by the teacher or graded in class. G.B.S. (Graded By Self) meaning that your son or daughter graded their own work. Please take out and review all work and sign on the appropriate line on the sheet in front of the envelope. This lets me know that you are seeing what goes home weekly.
Reading Log – The reading log is an important part of the homework. Second graders are excited about reading, and by reading a minimum of 15 minutes Monday – Thursday, students have an opportunity to develop their fluency and comprehension. Our Reading Logs will be apart of our 2nd grade weekly agenda. Parents will need to log how many minutes their child read and sign. Agendas will go home everyday and come back to school everyday. Agendas will be checked daily. If you have not purchased an Agenda please send in $4.00 and your child can purchase one in the front office.
Blue Homework Folders - This folder along with the Agenda will go home everyday and come back to school in the morning. If you send money for the cafeteria, a note for me or the office please put it in the folder and remind your child to give it to me. Every morning before the students put up their backpacks they will take out all homework that is due and turn the folder into me. Parents you too get homework! Any flyers from school will be sent for you to read and take out. Most importantly students put their homework for the night back in the folder to return to school.
Word Wall Words - Our word wall words will be given on Monday. We will be writing our words in our agendas. The students will be given 7 words for the week to study. These words will be generated from our “Working with Words Lessons”, their own writing, and 2nd grade high frequency words. On Monday your child should have 7 words listed in their agenda to study during the week. During the school day we work with these words through different activities. On Thursdays the students will have a pre-test. If they spell all words correctly, they don’t have to take the test on Friday.
reen S.O.AR Folders - This folder is the students self reflection folder of how they performed all week. This folder goes home on Fridays to be reviewed and signed and returned on Monday. This folder also serves as our communication folder. If there is consistent behavior issues throughout the day, the student will take home this folder to be reviewed and initialed by the “N” indicating (Not performing expectation).
