Look at what we are learning:
In language arts this week, we are working on writing paragraphs. We want all of our paragraphs to have a topic sentence, three detailed sentences and a conclusion sentence. We are reading the story Max Found Two Sticks and are working to identify the elements of a story (title, author, beginning, middle, end, genre.) We are also beginning to make inferences on the stories we read. Our spelling words this week are working on the /ay/ and /ill/ phonograms at the end of the word.
In math this week we are beginning Unit 8 which has us looking at fractions in relation to representing parts of a whole. We will be doing this by making models of a whole and breaking it apart into different fraction pieces. We will also use our knowledge of fractions to solve number stories.
In science we have been working on our Healthy Science Unit which has us demonstrate proper hand washing techniques to prevent the spread of germs. It also has us
draw and label a balanced meal and describe how it helps parts of the body. (digestive,
skeletal and circulatory systems.)
Finally, we will list and describe healthy choices that help functions of their body. (respiratory,
circulatory, skeletal and digestive systems)
In social studies we will explain the origins, symbolic meaning and proper treatment of the US flag. We will also read and write about national symbols such as the White House, the bald eagle, and the Statue of Liberty.
