Mrs. Mosley's and Mrs. Chavez's Kindergarten Class

What we are learning in math:
- coins and their values
- counting and grouping of objects by 1s, 5s, and 10s and now 2s
- manipulating and reading a calculator
- reading, counting and writing our numbers to 50 and beyond
- adding using dice, beans, hearts, tallies, pennies, and more
- reading a calendar
- time to the hour
- creating, extending and identifying patterns as AB, AAB, ABC, etc.
- introduction of writing and reading of number words (one, two, three...)
- graphing
- ordering numbers, least to greatest
What we are learning in language arts:
Dr. Seuss' Birthday was March 2nd. We made and tried green eggs and ham. How did it taste?
- we all took turns reading pages from P.D. Eastman's Go, Dog. Go!
- responding to literature
- recognizing site words
- singing, reading and listening to rhymes, especially from Jack Prelutsky!
- writing to express meaning; emphasizing correct letter formation and spacing between words
- first separating a word into syllables, then breaking syllables into individual sounds
- nurturing ability to read with fluency, reading in small group and one-on-one with Mrs. Mosley
- sequencing
- deciphering between the letters b,d,p,q
- word families, currently -et (pet, set, met, jet...)
What we are learning in science:
- life science
- identifying major structures of common living things like; My Body, Crickets, Plants, Animals, etc.
- recognizing and describing "family"
- germs
What we are and will be learning in social studies:
- important people
- presidents on coins
- why we follow rules, laws and practice being a good citizen
- recognize and name symbols of the United States

Behavior
Please review your child's stoplight each night. Behavior is monitored by dark green, light green, yellow then red. When on red, a note will be written to the parents. Green all week earns a trip to the treasure box on Friday!
Please discuss with your child how hitting, squeezing, hitting and kicking one another is not acceptable. Also provide reminders to use their nice words and to avoid potty talk at school.

A list of suggested home extensions is sent home on Monday. Please check off those activities completed during the week and return signed cover sheet on Friday, or the following Monday.
