Mrs. Mosley's and Mrs. Jose's Kindergarten Class
Attention: inventive spelling is encouraged
We are off to a great start!
Parents, please feel free to donate toys and trinkets to our class treasure box. Those who stay on green all week deserve to be rewarded!
Please bring a water bottle to and from school daily. Please no flavored drinks.
If it is your child's turn to bring in snack, please see that it is healthy. Help encourage good eating habits.
What we are and will be learning in math:
- using the calendar and days we've been in school to reinforce our number sense
- introduction of writing and reading of numbers and number words
- coins and their values
- counting and grouping of objects by 1s, 5s, 10s
- reading, counting and writing our numbers to 50 and beyond
- adding and subtracting using dice, beans, tallies, pennies, and more
- time to the hour
- creating, extending and identifying patterns as AB, AAB, ABC, etc.
- graphing
- understanding more and less than, ordering numbers least to greatest
What we are and will be learning in language arts:
- One to two letters a week for the first semester
- responding to literature
- recognizing site words
- singing, reading and listening to rhymes, especially from Jack Prelutsky!
- writing to express meaning; emphasizing correct letter formation and spacing between words
- correctly using capital letters and periods
- first separating a word into syllables, then breaking syllables into individual sounds
- nurturing ability to read with fluency, reading in small group and one-on-one with Mrs. Mosley
- sequencing
- deciphering between the letters b,d,p,q
- word families
Earth Science begins in October
What we are and will be learning in social studies:
- why we follow rules, laws and practice being a good citizen
- recognize and name symbols of New Mexico and the United States
- creating and interpreting maps

Behavior
Please review your child's stoplight recorded on the calendar attached to the yellow folder each night. Behavior is monitored by dark green, light green, yellow then red. When on red, a note will be written to the parents. Green all week earns a trip to the treasure box on Friday!
Please discuss with your child how hitting, squeezing, hitting and kicking one another is not acceptable. Also provide reminders to use their nice words and to avoid potty talk at school.

Homework:
A list of suggested home extensions is sent home on Monday beginning in September. Please check off those activities completed during the week and return signed cover sheet on Friday, or the following Monday.
