What a great start to the new quarter! Mrs. Lynch and I began swapping classes twice a week for Science and Social Studies.  We are all really enjoying it!

Here is what we are focusing on this quarter:

  • Math: multiplication and divison, number sentences and beginning algebra. Next unit begins decimals! Practice multiplication and division!
  • Science: healthy science.  ASK THEM WHAT THEY ARE TURNING INTO RUBBER.
  • Social Studies: the eastern region of the USA and the different branches of the government.
  • Literacy: we are focusing on realistic fiction. Story elements and reading strategies include cause and effect and summarizing.  Spelling lists for the week coordinate with the story. For writing we are working on good conventions and editing our own work. Keep up the reading at home!

.

Important Information!

Class news:

Thank you to those who donated anti-bacterial hand gel and clorox wipes! We can always use these items.

Remember: no toys at school! I will keep them in my May box or until a parent comes to pick them up!

It's getting a little chilly! Please make sure your child has a jacket for recess!

Like computer games? Try these!

More news to come!!

Homework:

Spelling: homework for the week is assigned on Monday and due on Friday. The homework consists of the correlating lesson pages in the spelling practice book as well as 3 activities of the students choice.  Some activity examples include: using your words in sentences or a story, writing the words 3 times in cursive, putting the words in a-b-c order.
Practice your spelling here!

Reading log: every Monday the students revieve a nightly reading log. I ask that they read for 30 minutes a night for 5 nights.  They are also required to write a summary (2-3 sentences) for every night that they read. They have 7 nights to complete their required 5 nights of reading! If the reading log goes missing, students can turn their logs in on a piece of notebook paper.

Math: multiplication facts.  Make flash cards at home and practice, practice, practice! Students should know everything up to their 12's!

All other homework is due on Monday, Wednesday or Friday. If I assign homework on Monday or Tuesday it will be due on Wednesday. This allows students and families to plan around after school activities and other obligations.
