November Newsletter

Dear Parents,

It was so good to see so many of you at Parent/Teacher conferences.  It is always nice to have the opportunity to sit down and talk about the progress that your child is making.  Thank you for all of the support that you give your 1st grader!

This month we are learning about many different things! 

In Science, we are getting ready to start our unit on Animals and Plants. 

In Math we are continuing to learn about time, money, even and odd numbers, and many different strategies to help solve addition and subtraction problems.  When we begin Unit 4 we will begin talking about different types of measurement. 

In Social Studies our activities will focus on the story of Thanksgiving and the symbols and people associated with that event.

In Reading we just started our small guided reading groups.  Students will be practicing strategies to help them problem solve unknown words, increase their fluency, and discuss the important details in a story. 

In Writing we are focusing on using capital letters and punctuation correctly, and on writing at least three sentences about the same topic.
