Welcome to First Grade!
Literacy
- We have been having a lot of fun together during our shared reading time. Students are learning a new poem "A Circle of Friends ". Reading together helps students hear and practice using inflection. We continue to work on our "Letter and Rhyme a Day" workbooks to review concepts learned in Kindergarten. During Writing time, we have been doing shared writing using our Biography Bags to write about us. Look for your child's "Special Child" Book.
Math
- Students have begun leading calendar themselves! They are also learning number sense and ordinal numbers. We have even begun some simple graphing!
Social Studies/Science
- We have begun our science unit on the sky. We are learning how the moon and sun affect our weather, and how the weather affects us. This will lead us into our "Healthy Me" unit.

Most important -- READ with your child every night. A reading log will be sent home to track your child's minutes, and we will have an ice cream party for those students who read for 1,000 minutes by the end of the school year!
