Parents, I am looking forward to seeing all of you at our 1st grade performance of Seussical!
Literacy
- Students are making amazing progress in Reading. More than half of the class is already proficient for first grade! Keep reading every night and our progress will continue to SOAR!
- Students are becoming familiar with the writing process. All students have completed at least one "published" work which has gone through the draft, edit, and revise phases.
Math
- Students have been continuing to learn different ways to add and subtract. They are now working on time at the hour, half, and quarter hours.
- Mountain Math has really begun to pay off as students are demonstrating proficiency in many higher level math skills, such as fractions, and even missing digit equations.
Social Studies/Science
- Students have been learning Presidents Washington and Lincoln in honor of Presidents' Day.
- Students have been learning about the different properties of matter - solids, liquids and gases.

Homework:
-
First grade homework should take no more than 15 minutes, inclusive of reading.
-
Most important -- READ with your child every night. A reading log will be sent home to track your child's minutes, and we will have an ice cream party for those students who read for 1,000 minutes by the end of the school year!
-
Nightly homework pages will be Math Home Links, except for Wednesday, which will be Spelling Practice.
-
Homework should be returned daily.
