Literacy
- We have begun our Literacy Corners and Reading Groups. Students will begin bringing familiar books home to read with their families. Please make sure these books are returned to school daily.
- Students are continuing Writer's Workshop. We have begun to discuss the writing process -- draft, revise, edit, and publish.
Math
- Students are becoming proficient with our Mountain Math Program. This program "gently" introduces students to fractions and algebra, as well as strengthening skills in number sense, addition and subtraction, measurement and time.
Social Studies/Science
- Students have begun to learn about the farm. This integrates Science (animals and their young) and Social Studies (natural resources). Integrating content makes it more enjoyable and meaningful to students!
- We have begun to focus "Our Neighbors to the North and South" on The United States holiday of Thanksgiving. Specific attention will be given to natural resources.

Homework:
-
First grade homework should take no more than 15 minutes, inclusive of reading.
-
Most important -- READ with your child every night. A reading log will be sent home to track your child's minutes, and we will have an ice cream party for those students who read for 1,000 minutes by the end of the school year!
-
Nightly homework pages will be Math Home Links, except for Wednesday, which will be Spelling Practice.
-
Homework should be returned daily.
