Meet Our Head Coach
Coach Toby Manzanares
Toby Manzanares just completed his 23rd year as a head volleyball coach, the last 13 years at Rio Rancho High School.
His overall record at Rio Rancho High School is 220-79, winning ten consecutive district 1-5A titles, finishing as the Class 5A State Runner-up in 2001 and 2004 & 2008, and securing the 5A State Championship six of the last eight seasons (2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, & 2009). While at St. Pius X, Manzanares led Sartans, claimed Class 3A State runner-up honors in 1993, and the Class 3A State Championship in 1994, posting an undefeated season (21-0).
Coach "Manz" has an overall career record of 340-148. Coach Manzanares graduated from St. Pius X High School and attended Eastern New Mexico University. He holds a Bachelor's & Master's Degree in Physical Education with a minor in Health Education. He teaches Physical Education at Rio Rancho High School.
Married to Carol, they have two children; Tommy Chad (15), and Shae Brooke (9).
Rams 2010 Volleyball Opens on the Road!
El Paso TX. 8-29-10
The Rio Rancho "Rams" (1-2) finished 7th at the Margaret Hussmann Tournament this past weekend. The tournament featured 16 teams from Texas and New Mexico. The "Rams" in Pool "C", matched up against El Paso Americas, Alamogordo, and Las Cruces High. In pool, the "Rams" finished 2nd overall to send them to the championship bracket. In the quarterfinals, RRHS met the host team, the Franklin High Cougars. A tough 3 set loss (21-25, 22-25, 23-25) sent the "Rams to the consolation side of the bracket. The "Rams" matched up against Cleveland High and were defeated in a 5 set match. The "Rams captured 7th place by beating the Mayfield Trojans in 4 sets. Senior Jayla Trombley was named to the All-Tournament team. Congrats!!
The JV and C-team will open their 2010 season on the road next week as they travel to St. Michael's on Sept. 7th, and to Sandia HS on Sept. 8th. Match times are 5:00 & 6:00 pm.
The "Rams" varsity team will head to Scottsdale, AZ. to compete in the Jim Rantanen Memorial Tournament on September 9-10 at Notre Dame Preparatory High School.
