ABOUT COACH SMITH
In his first three seasons, he has been fortunate enough to be selected as the 2005-2006 Coach of the West All-Stars, three time District 1 5A Coach of the Year and was selected in 2006-2007 as the Albuquerque Metro Coach of the Year, along with St. Pius' Damien Segurea. In his inaugural season, the Rams finished with a school record 20 wins, accumulating only nine losses on their way to an eventual appearance in the quarterfinal round of the New Mexico AAAAA State Basketball Tournament. The 2005-2006 team was the first to capture a district title and make a state playoff appearance. In the 2006-2007 season, the Rams finished with a record of 30-1 and were the New Mexico Class 5A State Champions. This was the first State Championship in the program's history. The Rams were also the District 1 5A Champions, for the second consecutive year. 2007-2008 brought the third straight district title home to the Rams. The season ended with an overall record of 17-12 and a trip to the state quarterfinals held in the Pit. Coach Smith served for nine years as an assistant coach (one year at Missouri Valley College, one year at Maryville High School in Maryville Missouri, three years at Kearney High School in Kearney Missouri, and four years in the Ram basketball organization). He competed as a high school player at Kearney and was an all-district and all-conference athlete while helping lead his team to it's first district championship and state playoff appearance in 30 years. Coach Smith holds a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Missouri Valley College and a Master's of Education in Special Education from Northwest Missouri State University. He is married to Kristi, a teacher at Enchanted Hills Elementary. Brian and Kristi have one daughter, Kaeli, who is four years old and a newborn son, Brock. Coach Smith's only fault appears to be his love of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas Jayhawks.
