School Board Approves Elementary Boundaries

At its meeting on Tuesday, February 19, the Rio Rancho Public Schools Board of Education gave final approval for elementary schools boundaries effective for the 2008-09 school year.

The board adopted the boundary committee’s Option 16A, one of the committee’s two preferred options for establishing the boundaries for Vista Grande, Enchanted Hills, and the new Sandia Vista Elementary School. Earlier this month, the board approved boundaries for the remaining elementary schools.

The board approved one fairly minor middle school boundary change earlier in February that affects about 50 students living in the far western area of the district between Northern Blvd. and 28th Ave. These students will attend Eagle Ridge Middle School next year.

Previously, they were transported to Mountain View Middle School, which is considerably further away. Middle schools will be affected by a major boundary adjustment for the 2009-10 school year, when middle schools become grade 6-8 campuses and a fourth middle school opens on the current Mid-High campus. A committee will be formed this fall to study middle school boundaries and recommend changes.

New high school boundaries were also decided upon earlier this spring by the Board.
