All About the Technology Department!

Programmer at WorkRio Rancho Public Schools is committed to the application of technology to improve instructional practices in the classroom, provide students with more opportunities for engaged learning, support accountability and administrative functions, and create new avenues for parental and community involvement.

Here are some technology specifics:

  • Over 4,600 networked computers in classrooms and 60 static and mobile computer labs in sixteen schools provide students and staff classroom access to the Internet, curriculum software, and shared resources.
  • Ratio of Students to Computers: 4:1
  • Ratio of Computers to Computer Technicians: 541:1
  • Number of Support Requests (handled by our Technicians): Average 700 per quarter
  • District Email (January-March 2007): 1,781,330 messages sent and received
  • Internet Traffic (check out our web section!) : Media Retrieval Systems in nine schools deliver relevant video to augment classroom instruction. All school Media Centers are automated to provide timely student research and media retrieval.
    Professional development to staff is provided by Education Technology Specialists on the staff of each K-9 school. Additional support is provided through the district's online training capabilities and by district participation in such programs as Intel’s Teach To The Future. Additional materials are also provided to our staff via our intranet.
    Amplification Systems are supported in numerous schools and we are adding to the number of classrooms using this technology to improve student learning.

Our Web & Intranet Section:

An extensive technology support structure is in place to assist staff and parents. Our district website (www.rrps.net) provides students, parents, staff, and community with relevant extensive curriculum and administrative information. A district intranet has been developed and is growing daily in providing staff with new means of communicating and obtaining information.

We have a team of 14 web designers (one at each school) who oversee and support all authoring of web pages on the individual school's website. This provides us the means for putting timely and accurate information into parents' hands for each of our schools.
